Special Counterbore series 1617 now turns into Bormax® 2.0 WS prima, long our new series 1614

Why didn’t we come up earlier with the idea to give our Special Counterbore the Bormax®-geometry? But now his number is up! We present our new Bormax® 2.0 WS prima, long!

If construction timbers to be connected together, there are various possibilities. A traditional and popular connection type is bolted connections using threaded rods or screws, washer and nuts.

On this, there are standards that prescribe to the thread used the dimension of the disc.

If the rule says it or it should be an optically invisible connection, the washer and the nut must be sunk into the wood. In practice, the carpenter drills according to the used thread with an auger bit a through hole in a wooden beam. In general, it is soft wood or wood construction. For sinking the washer/nut the carpenter uses a counterbore. Counterbore belong to the cylinder head drills and differ from the classical Forstner Bit and Cylinder Boring bit in the way that they do not have a centre point. Instead of the centre point, have this wood drills a mounting hole into which a pilot drill or a guide pin can be inserted.

We offer 19 different diameters of the counterbore as Standard. Smallest diameter is 20 mm and the largest diameter is 120 mm.  Counterbore in Ø 20 – 40 mm have an 8 mm bore, larger counterbore a 10 mm bore. Suitable for this two mounting holes we offer for each guide pins from 8 – 22 mm. By the way, we always finished the FAMAG-guide pins „under measurement“. Therewith is a very easy and precise guidance is given and there is no strong friction in the pre-drilled hole.

The mounted guide pins gives the counterbore a perfect guide and so also freehand drilling is possible in larger diameters than having a drill with a fixed centre point „in the usual dimension”. Alternatively to the guide pins are also pre-drills in diameter 8, 10 or 12 mm available. With a screwed pre-drill is drilling and countersinking in one operation possible and saves the time of the separate predrilling. With this combination tool is also an inclined boring possible.

You think this is state of the technology and you know it all?

Well you do not know that from May on we produce this WS tool with our new Bormax® 2.0 geometry. These drills are called Bormax® 2.0 WS prima, long and get the serial number 1614.

Did you know that ”prima“ is an antiquated term used by merchandiser and means ”of best quality“ or “first class”? In Italian it can mean “first”. Well, we think that fits!

Bormax® 2.0 prima, what is new? In future will we produce the cutting edges with our new Bormax®-cooling fins. This leads to considerable lower friction. Therefore our Bormax® 2.0 prima keeps cool even under extreme conditions.

Counterbores are often used in greater diameters. With rising diameter the demanded feed force rises, too. Because these tools are used freehand it would be desirable to minimize these forces. No problem with our new Bormax® 2.0 geometry! On both main cutting edges there are chip breaker mortise for a lot easier and faster drilling. It is unbelievable how much the longitudinal forces are lowered.
Included in delivery is a centre drill (as shown on the photo, left).
This centre drill can be pushed into the drill, so that it preside over a little. You can also mount it, so it presides more. Than you have a perfect guidance and can drill (using a strong cordless screwdriver) up to diameter 100 mm, freehand in soft wood. It seems almost incredible, but it is true!

In the end some very positive news for you!

In autumn 2016 we invested in and very fast milling machine. Due to that we were able to reduce production time as well as manufacturing costs. We will hand over this advantage to you. Our new Bormax® 2.0 prima long series comes along with very attractive prices. Best example is the diameter 120 mm. In future it will cost just 35% of its old price!
