Introducing two new boxed sets of hex shank HSS-G Drill Bits.

Hex shanks make bit changes fast and convenient, whether you are using a bit holder or just mounting the drill directly in the chuck. But what should you look for in a good hex shank drill bit?

The hex shanks have a standard key width of 6,35 mm (1/4“).  If the drill diameter is larger, you can simply grind the hexagon into the shank. However if the drill diameter is narrower, there are two common ways to form the hexagon:

1. The cheaper way is to produce a short hexagonal foot into which a standard round shank drill can be glued, soldered or welded. Our research has shown that this approach, while easy for the manufacturer, can often lead to problems with poor concentricity, greater heat generation and bit failure.

2. The truly elegant way is to manufacture these tools is to turn them from a single piece of steel. It is a more complicated production method, uses more material, time and effort, but the results are worth it. In use these tools have proven to have particularly smooth running characteristics and far greater durability. 

It goes without saying that all Famag hexagonal shank bits are produced in this way.

Furthermore, we use top quality German high speed steel and carefully grind and polish the flute profiles to ensure that you get the smoothest, fastest, cleanest drilling experience possible.

The long version of type 1597 hex shank drills are available individually from 3,0mm to 13,0mm in 0,5mm intervals, we also produce very short ones for use where access is restricted.

In addition to the 5-pieces set in blister pack we also now offer two sets of the full size 1597 bits in beautiful German-made wooden boxes.

A Set of 7-pieces with the common diameters 3/4/5/6/8/10/12 mm. 

A comprehensive 11-piece set with all the full mm diameters 3/4/5/6/7/8/9/10/11/12/13 mm.
