FAMAG Lewis-Auger Bits

The difference results from the two areas of application. The joiner generally used woodworking drill bits. He made freehand or stationary drilling in various wooden materials.  This could be through holes or blind holes, so holes that do not extend through the entire work piece. To this function have classic wood twist drills a centering point. In practice, the carpenter finished during the drilling the feed in the hole and moves the rotating drill out of the hole, result: a blind hole.
Unlike the carpenter: He made usually through holes in softwood. In practice, this auger bits have proven. They have no classical centre point, but a threaded tip. The carpenter pushes the rotating threaded tip of the auger bit into the wood and it now produces the feed similar to a wood screw. The advantage is that the user does not have to apply the thrust force, because this is automatically generated by the drill. In practice, this is a very comfortable and energy-saving work; which are very appreciated from experienced carpenters.
Since the carpenter often produces very deep holes, auger bits have only one cutting blade and an extra-large, coiled chip channel. By this geometry, this ideal removal of chips is ensured.
he FAMAG Lewis Auger bits are characterized by a milled round spiral. This spiral type ensures maximum bending stiffness by highest chip space. Thereby our auger bit promotes particularly   od take of of the chips and are pronounced with „directional stability“. This is particularly important when deep holes have to be drilled and the wood fibres of the material, try the drill while drilling a pass to “own direction”.

FAMAG Auger bits of the series 1410 have a taper tap, a main cutting edge and sophisticated threaded tip which works extremely od in softwood but also in European hardwood. They are used by carpenters, automatic joinery systems and everywhere where deep holes are drilled. For the torsion protection in the machines, we manufacture the shafts with a hexan (from diameter 10mm).

About 130 individual diameters are in the overall lengths 235, 320, 460, 650 und 1.000 mm available.

From some time, we also produce the overall length of 1,080 mm. These auger bits have a 1,010mm long spiral and thus differ from the 1,000 mm long lines which have only a spiral length of 380 mm and 535mm (from diameter 34 mm). The advantages of a very long spiral is that the chips extracted more comfortable out from the hole and this drill are directional stability even by deep holes

You are right, the wheel cannot be reinvented but these small product features make our tools incomparable; these are the opinion of many carpenters who often knock on our door and accurately report this.
