FAMAG- Forstner Bit comes in first in the USA
In the USA there was a grand benchmark test with 18 nameable producers. The FAMAG-Forstner Classic (series 1630, certainly "Made in Germany") comes in first and gets the award: "Best Overall"!

On March 22nd 1874 an American named Benjamin Forstner applied a wood drill for a patent in the USA: The so-called Forstner bit. Ten years before, in 1865, Benjamin Forstner got married and the FAMAG Tool factory was established, which is today the biggest German producer of forstner bits... Long ago…
| But not a long time ago, it was made a benchmark test which lately was released in the American magazine FineWoodworking (www.taunton.com) . The American author Roland Johnson has examined carefully and professionally 18 forstner bits of worldwide nameable producers. Here the drill diameters of the workpiece were checked and it's tested how the swarfs slide through the drill during the machining. Beside the quality of the borehole, the author detects also the temperature of the forstner bits after 100 boreholes. |

Johnson awards FAMAG the first place: especially good taper taps, very precise manufacturing tolerances of the drills and best bore quality with minor heating of the drills. A special plus factor was for the easy handling of the FAMAG-forstner bits..
